First Flounder Caught by Ocean City Guide Service
First flounder caught for Ocean City Guide Service in Ocean City today. We where fishing around the route 90 bridge, and bam, flounder on the line. This nice 19″ flounder was caught using a Salt and Pepper ZMan bait. We also released some nice 20 inch Rockfish.
As anglers across the mid Atlantic are gearing up for the summer season, the large schools of summer flounder are making their way out of their winter grounds offshore. Reports are coming in of a few flounders being caught around Wachapreaque Virginia.
This is good news for Ocean City, Maryland. Typically when the flounder show up in northern Virginia, summer flounder are about three weeks from making their appearance in the back bays of Ocean City.
The first fish of the season are typically caught around shallow flats and are normally pretty lethargic. Normal fishing tactics consist of slow trolling the ebbing tide and drifting shallow flats. These fish are trying to find the warm water which is holding the bait, the two big keys to early season success. The third of course water clarity.
